Post Operative instructions/ care:

Initial 24 hours after surgery:

Please refrain from carbonated beverages and fruit juices, avoid rinsing, hot liquids, spitting or using a straw.

Patients are strongly encouraged to refrain from smoking for as long as possible after treatment, as cigarette usages increases the likelihood of delayed healing of surgical site, infection and implant/graft failure.

24 hours after Surgery:

Healing may be accelerated by performing warm salt water oral rinses 2 - 3 times a day. You can use Chlorhexidine rinse to clean the area. Use a cotton swab to gently swab the area, once in the morning and once at night. Continue for at least a week after the procedure. You may brush your teeth the day after surgery. Please make sure to brush your teeth only and not the gum tissue.

It is very important to keep the area clean, as this also can lead to infection or failure of graft/implant.

Bleeding, bruising and swelling are normal events in the healing process and are to be expected. Bleeding typically subsides a few hours after a procedure. Although unlikely, bruising may occur several days after surgery and will resolve within 7 to 14 days. Swelling is a natural component of the healing process and typically peaks in 72 hours after surgery. Swelling can be reduced with the use of ice packs and Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, Aleve, Naproxen). Swelling may cause limited movement and/or decrease opening of your mouth, this is a normal phenomenom. If swelling and/or limited opening continue after 7 days, please call our ofice.
